We tried to resist this ad for fear of accusations of favouritism - but this ad from DDB London, admittedly for one of our stakeholders, is too good to resist.

September brings the Ryder Cup to our screens, newspapers and consciousness.  The cream of Europe's golfing talent takes on the Tiger Woods et al and the best the USA have to offer.

Held this year at Oakland Hills, Michigan, Bernhard Langer leads the European team hoping to defend the title.  Initially the Ryder Cup was a quite cordial affair, almost the equivalent to a football 'friendly'.  However, to say there is a bit of acrimony now would be an understatement.

From wild, premature celebrations from the American team, to US fans barracking Colin 'Mrs. Doubtfire' Montgomerie the Ryder Cup is far from friendly these days.  The sport Mark Twain dubbed "a good walk ruined" takes on a whole new perspective in Ryder Cup matches.

"Let battle commence" advertises The Guardian's free, 68-page guide to the Ryder Cup - out on Monday.

The Oakland Hills course, mapped out in the ad and looking decidedly like camouflage fits beautifully to the theme of this continental sporting battle.

Placed on the sports pages The Guardian grab an attentive and specific target audience.  Inventive, original, eye-catching and well placed - a medium owner showing off 'how to do it' in their own medium perfectly.
