The Awards for National Newspaper Advertising (the ANNAs) aim to shine a spotlight on the best newspaper ads and to inspire agencies and advertisers to make the most of the power of national newspapers.
The awards are run by the Newspaper Marketing Agency (NMA) on behalf of the national newspapers.
There are six awards – three creative awards and three creative and media awards
CREATIVE AWARDS -
Campaign of the Year The ultimate accolade for a newspaper campaign. The judges' choice for the national newspaper campaign of the year. The winning creative team receives a £20,000 cash prize and the runner up creative team receives £5,000.
Art Direction Award The year's best art direction in newspapers in a campaign or a single ad. The creative team receives £5,000.
Copywriting Award The year's best copywriting in a campaign or a single ad. The creative team receives £5,000.
Advertising is nominated for the creative awards by agency creative directors and by senior marketing executives.
Every month, a creative judge and an advertiser judge nominate advertisements from the previous month's national newspapers. Each judge chooses his or her 'Ad of the Month'.
At the end of the year, the judges review all the year's nominated ads and select the 'Campaign of the Year' and the winners of the Copywriting Award and the Art Direction Award.
CREATIVE AND MEDIA AWARDS -
Topicality Award The ad that makes the best use of the topicality of national newspapers. The winning creative and media teams share £10,000.
Best Use of Newspapers Award For great creative enhanced by the use of the newspaper medium. The winning creative and media teams share £10,000.
Digital Award For the best ad or campaign to run on digital newspapers during the year. The winning creative and media teams share £10,000.
For the Topicality Award, the Best Use of Newspapers Award and the Digital Award, the NMA invites agencies to submit entries.
Topicality Award: Email suggestions, with the names of the agencies and, where possible, the creative and media teams, to smargolis@nmauk.co.uk.
Best Use of Newspapers Award: Media agencies should email a Word document to smargolis@nmauk.co.uk describing the media strategy in no more than 250 words, and include images of the ad/campaign, the names of the media team, the name of the creative agency and, where possible, the names of the creative team.
Digital Award: Ads or campaigns must be submitted by completing the submission form in the 'Digital Award' section of the ANNAs website.
Entries for the 2011 ANNAs must be received by 31st October 2011. The Newspaper Marketing Agency will then draw up shortlists for the Topicality Award, the Best Use of Newspapers Award and the Digital Award.
The Topicality Award, the Best Use of Newspapers Award and the Digital Award are judged by panels of creative directors and media directors.
Timetable
This year's ANNAs are for the best ads and campaigns that appear in national newspapers between 1st November 2010 and 31st October 2011.
The winners will be announced and the awards presented at the annual ANNAs event on 25th January 2012. All the nominated and shortlisted ads and campaigns will be showcased in the 2011 ANNAs Annual. The nominated and shortlisted ads and campaigns will be displayed at the ANNAs event. The event venue will open the following day for a free exhibition.
